Keep the venue relationship and map consistent
Start by choosing the correct Location under Where and When. That links the event to a venue record. Venue Map provides the event’s address and mapping fields; check both when moving an event or using a different entrance.
For a small venue inside a larger building, put the public arrival address in the address fields and explain the room, entry door and step-free access in Content. Do not send guests to a loading dock just because it is the nearest map point.
Find and check the address
- Enter the venue name and locality, or its street address, in Location and select Find.
- Review the resulting address and coordinates. A familiar venue name can match a place in another town.
- Check the public map or directions after saving and previewing. Confirm that it points to the entrance attendees should use.
- If search does not resolve the location, enter the known address and verified coordinates, or ask the team to check the mapping setup.
Address field reference
- No. and Street
- The street number and name used for arriving at the event.
- address2
- A second address line for a unit, building or other necessary location detail.
- Suburb
- The suburb or locality. Check spelling so guests can recognise it and search for it.
- State
- The relevant state or territory.
- Post Code
- The postcode belonging to the venue address.
- Latitude
- The north–south coordinate in decimal degrees. Australian locations normally have a negative latitude. Use a verified value rather than guessing.
- Longitude
- The east–west coordinate in decimal degrees. Keep it in the longitude field; swapping the two coordinates produces the wrong location.
Do not use 0,0 as a placeholder: it is a real point on the globe. Check coordinates against the public directions and correct them before publishing.
Marker and category
- Map Marker
- Choose the image asset used by configured venue-map displays. Use an icon that remains recognisable at the small size shown on the map.
- Venu Map Category
- This is the category chooser’s label in the editor. Select the appropriate category for a website that groups or filters map locations. It is separate from the event’s Description categories.
Marker artwork and map categories only affect layouts that use those settings. If a map is missing from the public event, check the template and the address rather than assuming a marker image alone adds a map.
Finish with an arrival check
- Open the published event on a phone and follow its directions link.
- Compare the venue name, street address and map pin.
- Add clear arrival, parking, public transport and accessibility information to Content where relevant.
- If the venue changes after bookings, coordinate an attendee update; editing the address does not itself send a message to ticket holders.
Keep going
- Set dates, doors, venues and recurring events
- Build the event page with the content editor
- The pre-launch checklist
